crickets (when the sun goes down)

VIDEO INSTALLATION WITH SOUND - 1998

Giordano Bruno's rooms. Memories manipulated by the fragility of the human mind. The desire to remember and the limitations of ourselves.

Image, to absence of image, to memory.

Four monitors (memory rooms) around a large space display a figure embedded in an obviously false landscape. We hear the sound of real crickets (the event). The image then becomes slightly removed from the viewer as it transitions to a rescan of itself on a television monitor (false memory). The images then fade out one by one (real memory), triggering the custom built light sensitive cricket sounding circuit boards which are placed in front of each monitor. The viewer is left alone, in darkness, engulfed in a cacophony of synthetic crickets (false memory).
