flashbulb (Evel Knievel)

VIDEO INSTALLATION WITH SOUND - 1999

Our eyes are the original and most personal camera. This piece is an intimate and simultaneous double portrait of an incredible man and of us, explored through our desire to identify with greatness and to capture and keep that essence in the form of a personal photograph.

PHOTOGRAPHY / NET ART / PERFORMANCE - 2009

We take for granted the speed at which images of any place or thing are available to us. Using Google's Image Search, we are only a few keystrokes away from seeing anything we can think of, anything that exists in this world or others that has been seen. These photographs are an attempt to take an experience currently taken for granted and return it to its unbelievable (spiritual) state.

SINGLE CHANNEL VIDEO WITH SOUND - 2010

The older I get, the number of times I wish I had a time machine seems to be increasing. Light and time are connected. We know this. Video at its core, is light plus time. Different images moving through the same screen, occupying the same space created by a shifting cathode ray tube. A beam of light moves across the screen, creating the images and creating time.

Poor @SpumoniNick's Almanack

NET ART - 2009

In June of 2009, I was invited to create a month-long piece of art on the Brooklyn Museum's @1stFans Twitter feed. I proposed a project that attempted to draw parallels between Twitter, a modern day social networking tool and Benjamin Franklin’s Poor Richard’s Almanack, perhaps the original social networking publication.

The Video Rodeo

LIVE VIDEO PERFORMANCE SYSTEM (VJ) - 1997-2003

The Video Rodeo was the name of my custom live video performance system. Actually it was much more than that. It's really Evel Knievel, Monster Trucks, Harry Houdini, bull riders and more all rolled into one, presented as a live maverick video spectacular. I wore a black Stetson when I performed and I mean it.

SITE SPECIFIC SOUND INSTALLATION

Transforming a viewer's reality to a moment of cinema. To break reality and create a wholly immersive environment which occurs outside the normal flow of time. Disrupting the perspective of an unsuspecting viewer from the first to the third person.

Photographs I did not take at places I have stood.

NET ART - 2009

Since 2007 Google has been sending out cars equipped with cameras and computers to drive every major (and minor) road in America. While this service is useful to get a sense of a location before you go there, I found myself using it to revisit places from my past. This piece is about the experience of the difference. Our memory against someone else's.

The '03 Flyer

VIDEO INSTALLATION WITH SOUND - 2003

On December 17th 1903 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, history notes that Orville and Wilbur Wright made the first successful sustained powered human flight. In 2003 with his umbrella as his aircraft and my personal computer technology as his engine, Gene Kelly achieves his destiny and transcends the bounds of gravity, duplicating the 4 flights the Wright Brothers made 100 years earlier.
